B = Carl Maria von Bocklet. Who he? Well, yet another contributor to the Diabolics.

When we finally give up, we shall count up the entries. We shall see who is the true "King of Lists". Aha!

                C ountess Erdody.

Her house on Castle Hill in Budapest is now the Music Museum of Hungary and houses the Bartok Archives. Beethoven spent the night there on 7 May 1800 after performing at the Castle Theater with the horn player Punti.

I seem to remember reading that Beethoven slept rough in the Countess's garden for about 4 nights in a fit of depression. Is there any truth in this?

F = Johann Joseph Fux, music theorist of Gradus ad Parnassum fame. What Haydn used to teach the young LvB. Not a bad book, may I say.

What I'd like to say is that Fux's "Gradus..." is a lot more enjoyable to digest than "Polyphonic Composition", Owen Swindale, Oxford University Press, 1962.

                          "Gradus ad Parnassum" by Fux.

I totally expect to be disqualified, so here is an alternative:

Gretry. Beethoven wrote a set of variations on one of his tunes.

                                Illuminati.
Beethoven was influenced by the illuminati movement.
Bavarian Illuminati. A Bonn lodge of the Illuminati formed, and Beethoven's teacher Neefe became head of it, tried to instill in the young genius the group's Enlightenment ideals and principles.
