Yeahhhh...it's not the first time I have been mistaken for a man on a forum! It happens quite a lot.

Now back to the subject of the symphonies Peter will be telling me off hehe...

I have been listening to the Pastorale a few times today. It's amazing how well it evokes the sounds of nature and the feel of the countryside.

The perfect situation would be a warm, calm day in the mountains, perhaps on a mountain top or above a beautiful valley, depending on the piece being listened to.
    Sounds wonderful Harvey!

Oh I live on a busy main road so have the following going on in my garden ( I am in a 2 up 2 down where everything faces the front):

    buses
    cars
    police cars with sirens
    an obssessive ice cream van
    ambulances with sirens
    post office vans
    vans of other randomness
    crazy shouting people

Oh to move to somewhere quieter!

Last summer upon sitting in the garden I had to put his piano sonatas on really loud to hear them over that racket!!

I shall be going to the woods more this year.

Er, ah, yes indeed, we are. This seems to be a common problem of web forums. If only there was a simple way to link out to the general forum as things go off topic. Getting back at least to the symphonies, here is an interesting article I ran across yesterday that talks about the relevance of Beethoven's symphonic music for all ages:

    Beethoven Today

Of course another option would be to have a portrait of one of the ladies whom Beethoven admired so much such as Countess Giulietta Guicciardi.
