What is everyone's opinion of this work? Personally I don't think it belongs in that group of lesser Beethoven works that I often hear.

It isn't my favourite Beethoven, but I agree it deserves to be heard more - one of the problems is the unusual combination itself.

I've been listening to Haydn's Paukenmesse (Missa in tempore belli) with Bernstein conducting.

As I'm reading Berlioz's highly entertaining memoirs, listening to the "Grande Symphonie funebre et triomphale", Op. 15. Wonderful to picture him marching to the Place de la Bastille conducting this with a sword!
