Roehre, thanks for the heads up on the Bruckner 3rd! I have another CD on its way to me. How would you compare that with the Tintner?

Yes, thank you Sorrano and Roehre. Sorrano, I went with the Tintner because it was available on AmazonMP3 while Roehre's was not. Though, it does seem interesting - that is the 1st performance of the 1873 symphony.

Anyway, thanks Sorrano - the 1st mov. is almost twice as long as the 1889 version that I have. Nice!

Last night I couldn't sleep so I turned the radio on and caught Sowerby's Prarie: A Poem for Orchestra. That was a very nice treat.

                The Year of Beethoven

I have declared this the Year Of Beethoven for myself. I am a pianist, so I first started listening to all the piano sonatas in opus order. I am now at Opus 109. I am also listening to the symphonies. After a complete "listen through", I'm going back and doing a more thorough analysis of both the symphonies and sonatas. I stumbled upon this wonderful website while doing a Google search on Beethoven and the key of Eb.

A fellow pianist is indeed most welcome on the forum! Going through the sonatas in that way is excellent as you have a real journey through Beethoven's creative life - I did this myself recently with the quartets.

Beethoven's piano music for four hands - not a lot of it there, but I love Waldstein's "Bah-Bah Black Sheep" theme.

One of the Marches op.45 (IIRC no.1) ends with a for Beethoven not unusual "rocket", very similar to i.a. op.18/4i and Der Trommel gerühret from Egmont.
