    Beethoven's Wind Instrument

This reminds me that somewhere, I read that Beethoven also was taught to play the oboe (or that his teacher played the oboe). Anyone else in the loop on this? Was Beethoven himself an oboist (or student of the instrument)? Was it Neefe that played (and possibly taught) the instrument?

He did write an oboe concerto which is lost - only fragments of the main themes remain.

Well, I guess all we are left with is the obbligato oboe solo in the first movement of the 5th symphony....
