I was at the Musikverein in Vienna for that Schubert recital by Barenboim on his new piano. For the life of me I couldn't detect any difference in the sound and, secondly, his performance showed how much his playing has been adversely affected by a crowded CV which includes conducting, playing and now - apparently - piano design.
Back to the drawing board please, Maestro!

He ought to try a Paul McNulty fortepiano (Viennese style)- those are what Beethoven played on and composed on!Originally posted by Belle View PostI was at the Musikverein in Vienna for that Schubert recital by Barenboim on his new piano. Beethoven had a lot of different pianos and although in later years he expressed a preference for the Viennese manufacturers such as Graf, he was never satisfied.Originally posted by AeolianHarp View PostHe ought to try a Paul McNulty fortepiano (Viennese style)- those are what Beethoven played on and composed on!'Man know thyself'
