A little Bach quiz for you!

Listen to this Fantasy and Fugue by Bach and see if you can guess which 2 later composers' works have some similarities.

One is from the Classical period ( early 19th century) and one is from the Romantic period ( 1830s).

Put your submissions here and I will tell you all after a few guesses what they are!

I must say that I read nothing on this; I was just randomly searching for some Bach harpsichord music and found this. I had never heard it before til now.

I was quite delighted and surpised by what I heard!

I don't know if it's just because it's in the same key, but some parts of the prelude are very reminiscent of the first movement of the Tempest Sonata, particularly the recitative. I think it's easier to hear with sonorities of a piano. I can hear some Chopin in there too.

Beethoven sonata Op.2/1 I think you mean. Thematic similarities are far from uncommon as most western music is built on scale and arpeggio figuration - the most glaring example in Beethoven has to be the Eroica theme 1st movt and Mozart's overture to Bastien und Bastienne, a work Beethoven is unlikely to have known.

The first few notes are also identical to the opening of the scherzo of the Fifth symphony (Beethoven's) - though in a completely different key and tempo.
Also, the finale of B's symphony contains a theme from the second movement of the Jupiter symphony.

I remember hearing a piece years ago on the radio, which was written before Mozart's birth, and it contained a theme almost identical to the opening of "Eine Kleine Nachtmusik".

Thieves - the lot of them!

They were obviously talking to the same source.

Noone got the answers to my Bach quiz yet?

Sounds like you need more RAM Peter. I get that too, rebooting a lot.

I will give you all til Friday evening, then I shall reveal the answers...

No it's not that as I've already added extra RAM which has helped with the overall speed but my PC frequently crashes especially with Youtube which is almost unwatchable!

Maybe it needs more memory then Peter. That sounds annoying- I love you tube.
