I think Michael did incredibly well and I'm surprised they were all answered so quickly. Round 3 is in progress but from now on, new rounds will be posted at the beginning of the month - I'll close this thread now, so until then 'Les Adieux' and thanks to everyone who took part.

Damn. Well, on the podium this Round we have:
In 1st position : "Mad Mike" Mike;
In 2nd position (non-starter) : "Crazy Mule" Don Quixote;
Runner up : Megan "Meegs" Megan.
Booby prize : Peter for changing the goal posts for Q3 in mid tournament (if not torment).
Next Round! Ding!

That was the giveaway for me. I was floundering around cliffs and down wells until Peter's clue meant it had to be a cello concerto. I only know of two or three so I went for the usual suspects.

Well worked out MichaelOriginally posted by Peter View PostWell done Michael - I'll have to make the next lot even harder! The studio where Elgar composed at Brinkwells was moved in 1929 to nearby Bedham and you can stay there as a holiday retreat!
Where's the S in the clue for Brinkwells?

Come on Peter, put me out of my misery. Medium calibre shotgun will do the trick. Hmm, that could be a cryptic clue for a later quiz.

My 12 hours are up. Getting desperate now for the last remaining question.
Q5 - a long shot, but here goes: Rodrigo Concerto for Guitar, composed in 1939 on the brink of WWII?

I think 12 hours is enough really and provides a lot more momentum to the quiz. After this round I'll wait to the beginning of October for the next - they'll be a monthly feature from now on.Originally posted by Michael View PostDidn't notice the time limit had been reduced to 12 hours and as I happen to be up at the ungodly (for me) hour of 8.30, I'll have a go at No. 1:
"Albert Herring" by Benjamin Britten.

Afraid not - I wouldn't rely on Google. I'll give you a further clue in that I thought this was one you would definitely get, if that helps!Originally posted by Quijote View PostQ5 : After some frantic Internet searches I came up with this : Bartok, Concerto for Orchestra. My mate Google tells me Bela was on the brink of madness and/or bankruptcy when he composed it.
