I realize that this is not a Beethoven subject, but I'm hoping that someone can help me. I'm not sure how to pronounce Jim Mahoney's name. I understand that the first syllable is stressed, but is it MAH-ho-ney or MAY-ho-ney? Or is neither correct?

In Ireland, we pronounce it "MAH - ho- ney", with the emphasis on the first syllable. (The A in MAH rhymes with cat). In America, it is usually pronounced with the stress on the middle syllable: "Mah -HO - ney" (Mah as in "cat", and Ho as in "no"). I have never heard the MAH pronounced as MAY.Originally posted by erselking View PostI realize that this is not a Beethoven subject, but I'm hoping that someone can help me. The original Kurt Weill opera was composed to a German libretto so it could depend also on the translation.
