This year sees the bicentenaries of two great Romantics - Robert Schumann (June 8th) and Chopin. For Chopin we have two dates as the parish records suggest he was born on 22nd Feb whilst he always gave his birthday as March 1st. I post this now so as to remind myself of these eminent occasions as I'm prone to alzheimers when it comes to birthdays!

Both are correct: February 22nd is according to the Russian then still Julian calender, March 1st to the then western-european Gregorian one.Originally posted by Peter View PostFor Chopin we have two dates as the parish records suggest he was born on 22nd Feb whilst he always gave his birthday as March 1st.
(That's why e.g. the Russian October-revolution actually took place in November...)
