I think you're being a bit elitist about Suchet - whilst I'm no fan of his books, I do admire his genuine enthusiasm for Beethoven.

Well, quite. His enthusiasm for Beethoven's music (an enthusiasm shared by most of us on this forum I would imagine) is indeed commendable, but does not mean that Suchet provides original insights into his oeuvre. I feel that he is more concerned with the 'cult of personality' surrounding LvB than the music itself. There are many who say that listening to Beethoven (and classical music in general) is in itself an elitist pursuit. This is not my position, needless to say, but ...
