    Passing of Bill McLaughlin

I don't know if anyone who frequents this forum listens or has listened in times past to any of Bill McLaughlin's wonderful music programs, such as St. Paul Sunday or Exploring Music. He had recently retired from Exploring Music (his shows are still being aired, but will soon have Peter van de Graf as the host) and passed away on the 23rd of this month. He will be sorely missed. He had a vast amount of musical experience and knew a lot of the big names in music and shared with his radio audience.

    RIP

I didn't know of him, but these kinds of figures are slowly retiring and passing away. It makes me wonder what we will have left once they are all gone...

That is a sobering question. He played trombone for the Philadelphia Orchestra under Ormandy, and I think also Steinberg, along with various guest conductors. He composed music, and conducted the orchestra in Phoenix. While the experience was fantastic, his radio personality was such that he could communicate with the lay person about technical musical topics without boring those with music experience. He was so enthusiastic, as well, about the many wonderful works he introduced to his listeners.
