    Thanks for that Quijote - for some strange reason Purcell is one of those composers I've never really warmed to, I suppose it's the unfair comparison with Bach and Handel.

      My pleasure. It's the same for me with Benjamin Britten - don't know why. That said, his A Ceremony of Carols I truly love. His Cello Suites, OK. The rest?

        Yes and I could add Tippett to the list of English composers I generally find uninspiring. Even going back to the Renaissance I find Byrd dull compared to Josquin, Palestrina, Gabrielli and Victoria.
