Suicides at Beethoven's "death realm": Schwarzspanierhaus

Schwarzspanierstrasse 15 is the address of LvB's final residence. I learned there were suicides in the very room where he passed away: troubled creative types hoping to commune with his spirit in their final hour. The last and most infamous was Otto Weininger, author of the misogynistic and anti-Semitic book, Sex and Character. He rented the master's room and shot himself on Oct. 4, 1904 https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Otto_Weininger

The building was demolished in 1904. I assume shortly after Weininger's death. https://www.visitingvienna.com/foots...rzspanierhaus/

There were apparently protests to keep the historic building standing.

But I guess the owners were worried it would develop a notorious legacy?

Didn't want it to become a haven for dark-minded depressives?

It's all rather eyebrow-raising. And wondered if anyone had further details.

Interesting, I didn't know the posthumous dark history of the building other than it being demolished in 1904. The Beethovenhaus produced a cd which is a virtual tour of the original interior of Beethoven's apartment - not sure if it's still available but I have this. There are also some old photos taken of interior and exterior prior to demolition.
