    What a piece is this?

I'd like to have another quiz with you again: Today I finished this orchestration and ask you - what might be the wonderful original composition?

Not immediately. I knew it was by Mozart and that it was a piano piece. It's a long time since I heard K540 so my immediate thought was a sonata slow movement, then I realised there were hardly any Sonata slow movements in a minor key and the B minor Adagio came back to me!

If I'm not late, it is Mozart's Adagio (https://musescore.com/user/11373346/scores/2903836)

This is the minuet from Beethoven Op.2/1 - sounds more like a scherzo in your version Gerd and I like the orchestration!

Very good, Peter. I must admit that I did not really know this little movement so far, till I was recently asked to orchestrate this whole sonata . The first 3 movements I finished and now I try the Finale... I can't beleive that all of my life I am a lover of Beethoven and I didn't really know this first sonata so far ...

It's the delightful Sonata for Piano, Four Hands in D major, Op. 6. I used this one with a piano student once. It's great fun to play!

A very nice job you did of orchestrating it as well!

Bravo, Chris! I love Beethoven all my life and I can't believe that didn't know it! I really discover the early Beethoven ... Do you know a piece by Beethoven that is as Mozart-like as this?

Strange you say Mozart, it sounds more like Haydn to me!

The Mozart influence I think is so obvious in the melodious second movement, but also the first movement ist strongly influenced by Mozart's great 4 hand sonata K 497, especially in the beginning of the development:
