Well, I think the Op. 53 is best one out of this group. Overall...maybe the Kreutzer. I'm still enjoying that one.

The performance in these recordings is a somewhat secondary issue, but I chose some that I like personally. Ultimately I am trying to show that, at the very least, these instruments of Beethoven's era are the equal of their modern equivalent when it comes to performing Beethoven. But compared with a fp in the right hands, I suggest the modern instruments sound tame by comparison, regardless of whatever 'big star' is playing. With the lastest 4 tracks, even the 1784 Stein recording has a poignancy I have not heard on the best of what we have today with WoO54, so subtle and pure is its tone.

Yes, and as usual you'd be totally wrong

In bringing this to my attention, Chris only succeeded in furthering my position when I fixed it. So even when he was right, he was wrong to have been right!

Anyway, was the legato used in these last 4 tracks up to your high standard?!

Haven't had time yet Rod, hopefully they'll still be there at the weekend?

They'll be there for a while, a few weeks. Once people get used to the sound of one track, they (the clever ones) may like it and come back for more goodies. But eventually they will have to go. Have you considered using the tracks to make a page for your site? They are of value from a historical as well as musical perspective, considering B played all of these brands of instruments, and would fit in with this aspect of your site. Say they are supplied by me if you are worried about legal stuff (but this is hardly Napster!) or angry Steinway employees, also use the label and catalogue references.

It would be great to do that - I presume a link to your page would not be good enough, I'd have to download them all and create my own page?

I haven't got enough webspace free so I've contacted Chris to see if he can help! If he can upload them, I can put a link from the homepage. They'd certainly be a great asset to the site.
