I love this disc! A wonderful complement to the Zinman Beethoven Symphonies.

Chopin's best ballade in my opinion, and it sounds great on a Pleyel. I'm listening to B's Symphony 7 by Kleiber and the VPO.

                      Something modern for a change!

Big My Secret, Michael Nyman, played by Jeroen Van Veen.

                      (On my Amazon mp3 playlist)

Relatively simple music (compared with that of Beethoven), but melodically beautiful and emotive.

And this guy on a digital piano is very good!!!

He is so in the moment when playing, and has a wonderful touch.
I'd love to be able to play this (but far too hard for me..)

                          Big My Secret again..

Hey the video I posted yesterday...well this pianist has his own website...and he is self taught! since the age of 18!!! He has no music degree.

And not only this- he learned to play by ear!!!!

                          He couldn't read music!!!

Mark Fowler was born in the city of Peterborough, England in 1979. He started playing keyboards at a fairly young age but did not take piano seriously until 18. At 21 he bought his first piano and since then has progressed at a phenomenal rate to reach the standard of playing he is at today. Completely self taught, Mark believes his early love and passion for classical music by composers such as JS Bach, Beethoven and Mozart is what motivated and consequently drove him to learn piano by himself.

From a young age Mark could not read sheet music and so developed an innate ability to learn music by listening to it, or to play 'by ear' as it's more commonly known by today. Mark is now capable of both learning music 'by ear' or from sheet music/score, and has a vast and constantly expanding repertoire list, most of which he knows from memory.

Wow, he is so inspirational! As you all may know I struggle with sight reading. However, I can pick out notes by ear, and once I try out a beginner's "easy piece" that I know to listen to (one paged stuff) I can often find the notes by ear, and add the next ones. I'd love to develop playing by ear more- it is what I gravitate to.(Of course I haven't Mark's talent, but just a little ability).

The Tallis Scholars Sing Thomas Tallis

This is a new purchase. I have the complete works of Tallis on CD, but the Tallis Scholars are such a wonderful group that it's very worth it to have these recordings as well.

I have been singing in a schola this year. We do not sound like the Tallis Scholars
